About this session

Divide and conquer is a strategy that has been used by rulers throughout history to maintain power. In software, the strategy of interface segregation is similar. By using a layered (n-tier) software architecture, a large, complex software system is broken down into smaller, more easily handled parts. This structure decreases the likelihood that individual parts will adversely affect each other.

In this presentation, we’ll explain how using a layered software architecture can:

  • Reduce complexity and increase dependability
  • Improve risk management by isolating safety relevant code
  • Allow for the safe use of legacy software and software of unknown pedigree (SOUP) in your medical device
